My name is Robert MacKeen and I grew up as an all-American boy. My Dad was a preacher/missionary and my Mom was the best Mom in the whole world and the back-bone of our family. I grew up in a picture perfect New England home, in the picture perfect town of Blandford, Massachusetts and then when I was 15 we moved and I went to high school with the Navajo Indians at Window Rock High School in Ft. Defiance, Arizona. There my Dad, who was nicknamed “Pastor Mac”, was the youth pastor of Community Bible Church and my Mom was the true servant leader who stood silently behind the scenes making all of the delicious treats for the hundreds of youth groups we had during my high school years…It was great! The Navajo’s are some of the nicest, warmest people in America. 

Our basketball team took 3rd in State, beating some big time schools such as Flagstaff, Winslow and Holbrook Arizona. We ended the season 23 – 3 and I made first team All-Conference and Honorable mention All-State. My basketball coach and Godly role model, Raul Mendoza, was the best! The world agrees too!! If you don’t believe me, just look up “Basketball or Nothing” on NetFlix and watch the 7 part series and then you will see how God has blessed this man and all those who follow his lead! Cream rises to the top and anybody can excel in a certain area when excellence, commitment and Godly principles are taught, practiced and pursued, and this is especially evident because it was achieved in a marginalized, poverty stricken region.

My senior year, I graduated Salutatorian, took 5th in State in the 400 meter, 1st team all conference in b-ball, Honorable Mention All-State in b-ball and received the athlete of the year award for WRHS. I was then appointed to the Coast Guard Academy to play on their basketball team, and was also appointed to the United States Air Force Academy. I ended up going to the Air Force Academy where I was “Big Bad Basic”, “500 Club”, “Honor Roll”, and on the “Air Force Academy Drum and Bugle Corp. I was also 1 of the 2 cadets that made it past tryouts and was able to work out with the basketball team for 2 weeks but was eventually cut along with the other guy. After approximately 9 months, I made the mistake of leaving the Air Force Academy.

So I left the Air Force Academy and started building sword display cases for the very institution I just left. How ironic! I formed R&R Woodcrafts and built up the business for 22 years. We ended up selling to the Air Force Academy, West Point Military Academy, The Citadel and Valley Forge. I probably built 20,000 Sword Display cases, with my bare hands, out of Oak, Cherry and Mahogany hardwoods with blue, black and red velvet backing along with the choice of a glass enclosure. I personally handmade cases for the U.S. Presidents: Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr., Bill Clinton, George Bush Jr., and the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, just to mention a few of the famous people I made sword display cases for. After 22 years of hard work and dedication, in 2007, I sold the business to my awesome brother and his wife Richard and Mary MacKeen.

I ended up having a toxic and troubled marriage and got divorced in 2006. After selling the wood manufacturing business to my brother in 2007, I found my soul mate Rebecca, who had 6 kids and I had custody of my 4 kids, So, when we got married, we had 10 kids instantly… and then in this blended marriage, (you gotta watch the movie with Adam Sandler “Blended”), we had 2 kids together. Yes, it was ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ and yes my wife Rebecca was “special”. The kids all got along and Rebecca was the most awesome cook and loving and caring Mom in the world. It was during this time that I, for the 1st time in my life, had to work for somebody else in order to provide for my family, especially good health insurance, and the State of Texas (TDCJ) had jobs available and had great insurance and since I never got my College degree, that was our only option. I then gave the State of Texas 14 years of my life and worked for a maximum security prison in Amarillo, Texas named the William P. Clements Unit, which houses approximately 4,000 inmates/offenders. While I worked there, my wife and I went back to school and we both graduated college, and then went on to get our Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. We both ended up graduating Dec. 12th, 2020 but to our disappointment, due to Covid, were unable to ‘walk’ and graduated via a “Virtual Reality” graduation which “stunk”!! I wanted to have the biggest celebration ever, because this was a big deal for us, but couldn’t because of Covid.

Anyway, at the same time I finished post graduate studies and received my Master’s degree, I was attacked at the prison and almost killed. My face and nose were broken, my hearing impaired, and my shoulders were messed up and I had lacerations on my chin and elbows. I think it was God’s way of telling me I needed to return to being my “true self” which was being my own boss/self –employed which, if anybody really knows me, is truly the desire of my heart. You see, when I came to Amarillo, Texas 15 years ago, I came to this town with the full intention of starting my own business. I wanted to make wind turbines.. And it’s funny, that is exactly what T. Boone Pickens plan was for the Amarillo, Texas area, which he started implementing in 2008. Of course, I was going to make the smaller home version wind turbines so that the power of electricity would go to the home owner, and didn’t have the seed money to start such an expensive endeavor. So, that all turned into a pipe dream and I had to get the job at the prison in order to provide for the family. Anyway, I said all of that to show you that it’s in my blood to build and make things that people can use, love and enjoy!! So this attack ended my time at the prison, as a Sergeant of Corrections, and started a whole new and exciting chapter in my life.

So, while I recuperated from the attack, I became a professional at analyzing how to become truly comfortable in bed when your body is racked with pain!! It took me years of testing and trials, and I came up with multiple tests and multiple revisions to the now tried and tested “Bedder Body Pillow”. All that put aside, I really love the company name, because when you have God in your life, receive Jesus into your heart and also have a nice comfortable side-sleeping full body support pillow, then, you really do have “Peace” or “Tranquility” when you go to sleep each and every night.
